Hello there! I’m Max Jungreis, a journalist, audio producer, and all-around storyteller. My work has appeared in outlets like NPR, the BBC, The Boston Globe, Business Insider, and more. My stories tend to be offbeat pieces about obscure subjects that reveal larger ideas. I’m drawn to emotional nuance, and my work frequently features narrative twists that lead to moments of poignancy.
That’s what I do. But who am I? I was born and raised in Alaska, a fantastical place that I rarely got to leave. During the six-month winters, daylight came and went while I sat in class. Stories became my escape, and if I wasn’t reading them, I was listening to them. In middle school, I began reporting for a local public radio show so I could make them.
All these years later I’m still telling stories, but now for a national audience. When I’m not doing that, I’m probably reading or making art at my home in beautiful Portland, Maine.
